What is your definition of perception? Are you free to question your own perceptions? For countless years of my life, I felt so strongly about what I saw, heard and believed...
I really thought, "I know I am right, so others must be wrong." These days I have a very different approach to my own perceptions and the role they play in my life.
I believe that our perceptions are simply the ways in which we try to understand our experiences and the world around us clearly.
Previously, I trusted my own perceptions and interpretations of my experiences so completely, that if someone disagreed with me, I assumed that they were just not getting the big picture. Perhaps they were not as far along in their journey as I was. For too long I guided myself through life believing my understandings were clearer and truer than others.
Fortunately, life offers endless amounts of teachable moments. If, like myself, you don’t get the lesson the first time, God, Divine Spirit or however you reference the power of the Universe, will gladly provide multiple opportunities to help guide you on your path. Although these learning moments are memorable, they are not always fun! They are, however, always blessings.
I have had to learn the hard way, many times, that other peoples' perceptions are just as valid to them as mine are to me, whether I have the context to understand them or not. I am thankful for these lessons, though, because they keep me moving toward true enlightenment, teaching me to take my own perceptions with a grain of salt.

I now understand that all our perceptions are filtered through a mind-boggling amount of filters, consciously and unconsciously altering the message to fit our individual points of reference.
Encountering the diversity of perceptions in our world can serve to remind us each daily to move out from our ego-based mind and back into our hearts, where we can much more easily see the truth of our connection and oneness.
When you hear an "I'm right; you're wrong" conversation taking place within or around you: Pause. Take a moment to review the conversation again, only this time listening with your heart.
How much better would your experience of this person be without the chatter of the ego interfering with your perception?
Got an example or story about this? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below!
